Our Story

It all started when…

Underlings began as a collaboration amongst some Boston-based theater lovers: co-founders Daniel Thomas Blackwell and Lelaina Vogel. In 2017, we centered our work on the intersection between the classical and the contemporary. Our first two seasons brought us to stages in the Boston area with Shakespeare, new plays, and our artistic collaborators at the forefront.

And then life happened.

It’s been a few years, and we’re ready to dip our toe back in to the playmaking world. Lelaina’s stepped in as the company director, and we’ll be coming to a basement or theater near Pittsburgh with the return of our first full production: Ada, Soon.
